A Technology & Business Consultant focused on personalized service.  After 20 years spent building technology platforms for “big-tech” companies (Compaq Computers, HP, IBM, etc) I felt the calling for the more rewarding work by applying my passion for complex technologies towards enabling individuals and small businesses to thrive.  As a small business owner myself, I understand the challenges of “wearing many hats” while also providing customers with the seamless digital capabilities that have becomes expected for their convenience.  Using technology securely to gain capability and efficiency has become essential to success in business and even for building personal wealth.

My focus is on individualized consulting based on understanding your personal challenges and preferences, and leveraging the latest evolving technical capability to provide you with solutions that gives you a technical “edge” while also keeping your personal and customer data private and secure  You don’t have to sacrifice your privacy to data harvesting services like Google, Apple or Amazon to enjoy functionality like file/media sharing, cloud data backups and digital communication.

Also, having the benefit of been exposed to using IBM’s own “Watson” AI for years internally prior to it’s commercial availability, I’ve enjoyed the fairly exclusive opportunity of already having several years experience in applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) to solve practical business challenges; and thoroughly enjoy finding new ways to use today’s easily accessible AI platforms to automate business and even personal workflows for time savings and profitability.

  • Web Deployment, SEO & CRM

    Throughout my corporate career I have spent years managing website design / optimization, SEO (search engine optimization) and CRM (customer relationship management & lead tracking) platforms. Including automated advertising distribution and integration to social media platforms and job boards. Today I actively manage 10+ websites, advise on numerous customers sites and have helped setup several complex multi-domain deployments - including DNS & SSL/TLS configuration, firewalls and reverse proxy implementation.

  • Networking & Communications

    I spent over a decade working remotely for leading tech employers (including leadership roles) while keeping my physical location private. The same private VPN and encrypted network technologies utilized in my Expat VPN service, RemoteToHome.io, can be applied for your personal and business needs. Along with this I have gained a significant practical experience with WireGuard, Tailscale, ZeroTier, SSH, NAT, VLANs, and DNS setup - including SMTP, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, DNSSEC, TLSA and DANE configuration.

  • Secure Self-Hosted Platforms

    In 1999 I migrated the last of my personal computing off Windows in favor of Linux (RHEL 6) and running a Windows virtual machine (VM) only when needed. Since then I have hosted nearly all my own platforms - from email (SMTP + IMAP), Customer Management, Invoicing and Monitoring, to a wide range of services for friends, family and business associates. Today I manage over 100 Virtual Private Servers (VPS) across multiple providers (through Ansible automation) that I've built utilizing full-disk encryption, reverse proxies, SSO (+2FA and ZeroTrust), containerization (VMs, Docker, KVM/QEMU, LXC) and responsive firewalls.

  • Data Encryption, Backup & Recovery

    I believe in data encryption at-rest, in-processing and in-transit. I have run full-disk LUKS + LVM encryption since it became available in mainline linux kernel. With a passion for data privacy, I can help with an encryption strategy to ensure your data is never exposed through it's lifecycle from creation to destruction. Whether it's GoCrypt FS for quick synchronization, transparent encrypted volumes to cloud services (e.g. Google Drive) for backup, or GPG/PGP for secure email, we can make sure your data is yours alone.

  • Data Security

    While many IT consultants are familiar with technical aspects of data privacy (passwords, encryption, etc), I've also had the experience of being the direct responsible business owner of over 300,000 sensitive employee records spanning 89 countries. This has provided valuable experience with both the laws and real-world practices of how governments can get access to personal data upon formal request. We can utilize this experience to develop a strategy where you can "offshore" your private data to keep it legally safe from litigation discovery or legal "fishing expeditions" that could be maliciously used against you.

    Product Management

    I have over 7 years experience in "big tech" software product management, helping transform business requirements into real-world technology platforms producing millions in ROI. This included full "product ownership" in managing not only the product roadmap, but also the analysts and developers that build and manage the product. In my final role with IBM, I was a "Portfolio Offering Leader", managing a global tech software portfolio along with the PMs and teams supporting each product "offering". This experience has provided me a well tuned ability to translate your business needs into realistic, affordable and tangible solutions that solve business problems.

  • Sales & Marketing

    My career began in 100% commissioned direct sales environments, both in-person and remote - and in both B2C and B2B products and services. I had to deliver results or there was no paycheck. Having worked from lead generation through deal close and account management, I'm deeply familiar with structured closing and the full sales life-cycle. This experience has served me since in keeping a "solve the customer's problem" mindset when evolving into roles managing multi-channel marketing campaigns and building product and service solutions. As my career evolved into tech product management, this further evolved into "C-Suite" sales as enterprise customers desired direct conversations with the "owner" of the product being proposed.

  • Human Capital Management & Recruiting

    My early sales career quick evolved into a role as a headhunter, running a "full desk" doing both sales and recruitment. As my career built momentum, I was hired by a "big tech" client to manage their recruiting function and eventually into associated HR responsibilities with titles such a "HR Business Partner, Workforce Planning". Even as my roles progressively became more technically focused, they were still centered on the HR and Talent Acquisition segments of the business by implementing and then managing large-scale HR system deployments. My final roles in product ownership were managing the global "HR Technology" portfolio of solutions for IBM. Being responsible for large volumes of sensitive employee data and designing systems that implement HR / Talent processes has kept me acutely up-to-date on international employment regulations and predictive analytics of human capital management (HCM) at scale.
